Reopening until we're sure this is set straight. Or at least firmly crooked.
For the record, 'shortname=lower' is the documented default, and 'utf8' is the
documented version of the mount option, so an equivalent option string would
be: 'rw,nosuid,nodev,uid=500,gid=500,dmask=0077,utf8'
