On my own system I have 4 partitions, in this sequence:
Windows XP - /boot - swap - /
I made the Linux partitions after having made unallocated space with a 
Windows utility. Then I installed Fedora 8 from CD and made the three 
partitions after the Windows partition.
All went well and Linux works perfectly.

Maybe this is a thought to repeat for you. While installing Fedora, you 
can rearrange the Linux partitions any way you like (even deleting the 
Windows partition can be done easily...).
