What do you mean by update the system, are you updating your kernel or
updating your KDE/Gnome ?

Can you be more specific ?  Unless and until you build and update the kernel
there shouldnt be a need for installing nvidia again and again as nvidia is
a kernel module and its dependent on the kernel version.
