Thanks for responding!
I'm still a little confused.
There's kernel-doc, kernel-source, and kernel*src
I still very much a beginner. I bought a pre-loaded redhat linux system
from Tiger Direct in 2000, and it mostly sat unattended for over three
years. After I was laid off, I obtained and did a clean default install of
redhat 9 using the pre-installed 6.2 default partitions. I've managed to
keep it up2date as I learn about it.
I think I understand that kernel*src if for those who want to make changes
and compile their own custom kernel. (Scary! [to me])
I think I never had kernel-source installed, or I uninstalled it, because
up2date has not replaced it with the legacy current version.
I'm running my shrike-legacy system as a lan server for web development.
Is kernel-source not essential to linux?
Thanks,
