It seems like apt isn't used all that much by anyone that's
contributing here.  So who knows when it'll get the proper review and
be published.  If you use apt, perhaps you could check out the
bugzilla page for it and help get it to the point where it can be
published?

The package needs QA'd and given PUBLISH votes by a few people before
it can get pushed out.

As far as getting notification, I don't know if something like that
would get posted to the announcement list of not.  Jesse?
