edit the kernel line in /boot/grub/grub.conf:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi rhgb 
                                                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
hdd=ide-scsi vga=788 nohlt
