intel i960(100Mhz) is the low end, and new intel Xscale 600-733-800 is
the high end. More info about chips: http://www.intel.com/design/iio/
All recent SCSI boards can handle at least 16 disks.

Today SATA is cheaper, and SCSI is faster and more secure.
