FC1 and RPM db issues

I recently upgraded my Sony Viao PCG-F480 from rhl9 to fc1 and
everything seems to be working pretty much ok. However i am running into
a problem with rpm. When i query or try to do anything with the rpmdb i
receive errors like the following:

$rpm -qa | grep rhgb
rpmdb: unable to join the environment
error: db4 error(11) from dbenv->open: Resource temporarily unavailable
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Resource temporarily
unavailable (11)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

has anyone else run into this as well? If so, how can i fix the problem?
