RH 8 - Fedora upgrade difficulties

Hi All 
I'm trying to upgrade an RH8 install to Fedora Core 1 and am having a little
trouble very early on.
The installer transfers the install image to the hard drive and then aborts
with the following message

"Information on service linuxconf:
No such file or directory
Install exited abnormally
Sending termination signals...done
Sending kill signals...done
Unmounting file system /mnt/.....etc
You may safely reboot your system"

Any ideas what might be going wrong ?
