Intel 865 Chipset Display Problem

Hello List
After installing FC1 X starts with configured
resolution: 1024x768 and color depth : A million
colors, but the display lacks clarity.In fact nothing
is viewable.If I change the resolution to 640x480 it
works with the same color depth but the screen is too
huge to hold a web page.No other configuration 
works.Could any one throw some light on this ?
