That's the difficulty.  On windows, VNC runs at port 5900.  On linux, 
the first VNC session runs at 5901, second at 5902, etc.  If you start 
vncserver manually, it will tell you something like "starting display on 
:1".  This really means starting on 5900+N, or 5901.
