Consider remastering it and not using cloop. the kernel has transparent 
decompression of ISOs (I presume fc has it configured)

mkzftree KNOPPIX CompressedKnoppix
mkisofs ... -z CompressedKnoppix

You will also need to reconfigure Knoppix to not use cloop.

This has the advantage that you don't need to mess round with the system 
you're working on.
