Missing DVD-RW Drive

I'm still a bit new to all of this...
Tried creating the link, but get "ln: `/dev/hdc': File exists". Form
what I can find out, hdc is the DVD drive. I have a BenQ DVD+RW drive.
Anything else I can try?!?
