bug in time?

hiya,
while running bash shell  :

[feenixxi at sandbox]$ time
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

[feenixxi at sandbox ]$ time --help
bash: --help: command not found

real    0m0.001s
user    0m0.000s
sys     0m0.001s

time command works fine in both tcsh and csh, what's wrong with bash?
