Just wanted to say thanks to those that responded.  Non-linear editing
of audio/video is sort of like a deejay/veejay thing.

As the responses mentioned, kino, kdenlive, cinelerra, and
http://ccrma-www.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/ all seem to be good
tools for various aspects/skill levels.  A "Video 
Capture/Editing HOWTO" should be very timely, too.
