 Xchat 2.0 is very good and easy for X http://www.xchat.org/ and there are
RH/fedora rpms available. For the console there is the original ircII
client and other clients based on the ircII source code epic and BitchX.
 A nice way to set up Xchat is to simply type
/set
in a window and you can see all the settings for the program.
