I think you'll be very interested in The Coccinella, which is an
enhanced Jabber client that has full whiteboard functionality.

Coccinella works on Linux, Windows and Macintosh and can operate in
peer-to-peer mode or over a Jabber server.  You can use a public Jabber
server, or if you prefer running your own, Jabberd (the server) isn't
too hard to get going on a Fedora box with the SRPM provided at
http://jabberd.jabberstudio.org/1.4/
