Thanks, can you tell me what AFAIK means.  Also, is this documented anywhere for FC1 that you know of?

AFAIK, by default Linux supports 32 processors on 32-bit systems 
and 64 processors on 64-bit systems. The kernel configuration 
file has a setting for this:

CONFIG_SMP=y
CONFIG_NR_CPUS=32
