In addition, you can configure Procmail to directly sort the incoming
mail not into the spool directory but to store it into the user's
homedirectory. For that create an /etc/procmailrc with following content
for example:

MAILDIR=$HOME/mail
LOGFILE=/var/log/procmail.log
LOGABSTRACT=all
VERBOSE=yes

:0 :
$DEFAULT

That will deliver incoming mail to an mbox file called mail in the
user's homedirectory and logs it's activity to a log file in /var/log.
