Subject: RE: FC3 - system unbootable - solved

Excellent,

booted with the rescue cd, changed to init 3 and removed rhgb from grub.conf.
New the system boots. this is an nvidia system, for some reason there are no kernel sources installed.
I had them on FC3 Test1... so I'll have to locate these and hope to get the nvidia driver up.

what does rhgb do? should I put that back in after the X configuration is done?

rhbg, is the graphic Red Hat boot screen. It puts up a nice image of a computer and shows through a bar boot progress. It also shows which service is loading. If you like the old text style of bootup, you can leave this out of or remove it from the kernel line in grub.conf or lilo.conf (if you are still using lilo.)
