Indeed. Apt runs on x86_64 (and several other archs) and can handle mixing 
x86_64 and i386 packages just fine, *as long as the package names differ*.
Which in practise means that FC and RHEL on biarch systems dont work with 
apt, at least Suse handles this situation differently.
