FC1 slowing down

Hi,

I have been using FC1 sine quite some time.

But since few days, the login process has slowed down

whenever i do a ssh to my comp, it displays the ssh banner and hangs for 2 
odd minutes.

whenever i do a sudo <some command>, it hangs for 2 mins

A login on the terminal also takes same time

All i remember is that this happened after i upgraded to 
kernel-2.4.22-1.2197.nptl

But now even after booting into old kernel-2.4.22-1.2179.nptl, its the 
same...

can someone think of any reasons for this?
