Cron question

Hi all,
I want to make a backup every night by rsyncing everything to a second disk. I 
have worked out that you need to do this with cron. I have looked into cron 
by man cron and man contab, and I searched the archive for this, but I can't 
get a solid clue how to do it. 
I found out that crontab -e edits the cron information, but I am not very good 
at vim and do not really know what to do with it.

Can anyone give me a clue?
