network detection problem (Alexander and John)

Thank you all for your help.  It finally worked.  I
ran lsmod and found out that tulip module was not
listed there.  All I had to do then was to add 
"alias eth0 tulip "
to /etc/modules.conf.  I restarted it and checked
again, tulip module was there.  Also, ifconfig started
showing eth0.

I confingured internet configuation, worked...
