Gustavo: I searched Gnome prefs but couldn't find any place to map file 
extensions. There was a simple file association window that let me pick my 
browser and text editor, and a couple of other things, but I couldn't find 
anything else.
I'm beginning to think that the problem is partly this Firefox issue, and 
partly something else - it would appear that some WM files do play correctly.
