cvs problems using password encrytion routine cryptout.pl

I have been trying to set up a pserver access password for cvs using the
routine cryptout.pl as suggested by cvs documentation. The routine generates
random encrypted text for plain text. It should generate the same envrypted
text for the same plaintext input.

Has anyone else got this to work for them correctly?
