no www after yum update

yes, i didn't mean to imply it wasn't.  i meant to say
that the name doesn't resolve for me.  my laptop isn't
finding the dns servers for some reason.  it use to
magically know who the dns servers were (maybe if i
understood how this happened i could find the problem)
and for some reason it suddenly stopped knowing.  so i
can enter slashdot's ip address and get there fine,
but if i enter the url, i can't.
