All coreutils binaries segfault, requiring complete reinstall of linux

Not exactly, but the discussions of viruses inspired me to load clamav and
indeed, on of the Progress binaries had the Linux.Rst.A virus, and most of 
/bin did also.  

Fortunately, rpm didn't get affected, so I can install that and it seems 
I'm gradually clearing things out and getting commands in /bin working. 
(hint: don't use /bin/cp to copy non-infected binaries!)
