grub.conf emptied, and now i get kernel panic?

OMG!  Ok, that fixed it

It was the root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00

part that was throwing me off, thanks a lot for everybodies help.

OMG, i missed my fc3 so much.  its amazing, after using windows it feels as 
if a part of my soul has rotted away.
