how to access photo camera card?

Hi,

On FC4 when I plugin in a photo camera, a dialog asks me to import
photos (gthumb does the import, but it doesn't delete the files, even
though I checked that).

There is no icon with the drive on desktop, how could I mount the card
and use it directly as a storage device?

More details:
The camera is Canon A520, with SD storage.

Kernel log:
Dec 10 00:36:40 mariusa-ro kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device
using uhci_hcd and address 5
(this is the only line)

I've tried mount /dev/sda1, but that doesn't find anything there.
Docs I've read say that the /dev entry should be listed
in /var/log/messages, but it isn't.
