You could unload the modules for it - that would disable it. You use
'rmmod <module name>', but with sound cards there's often several
modules involved and you have to consider dependencies and remove them
in the right order. However, there's a good chance your modprobe.conf is
set up for this. Read the man page for rmmod (same function as 'modprobe
-r'), and look at your modprobe.conf.
