I really haven't had any issues with GNOME.  In fact, I think some of
GNOME's features are quite an improvement over [c]twm, which is what I
was using before I decided to go with GNOME.

What I *do* have a problem with is fascist window managers.  While I
agree with Havoc that "preference bloating" can complicate a UI,
there's a difference between a capability and a preference, and
discrimination against the latter should not lead to mindless
discrimination against the former.
