Hi, 
check what module your wifi used to load and verify thats is being
loaded, if not loaded
try with modprobe, if not found, rebuild the kernel.

check modprobe.conf it should have somthing like:

alias eth0 dmfe
alias eth1 via-rhine
alias eth2 airo

I hope it works, provide kernel-version, module, card.
