dell + drive door won't respond

Make sure that the drive is unmounted. With a terminal, type 'mount' and see 
if it is mounted. if so, unmount with 'umount <cd mount piont>' (replace <cd 
mount point> with wherever the cd is mounted, usually /mnt/cdrom)
