How do I become a Fedora Extra maintainer

How do I become someone who helps build and maintain packages that 
others can enjoy? Every now and then I end up compiling a program and I 
believe it would be a lot cleaner on my system as an rpm, and that 
others might find it usful. Currently all I have is the will , a little 
bash and python knowledge, my LUG, and this list.

Please advise.
