Jul 17 17:30:51 stkserver portmap[2894]: connect from 222.169.100.101 to getport(nfs): request from unauthorized host

on the server i had this:

# cat /etc/hosts.allow
portmap: 222.168.100. : 127.

and also tried w/ this:

# cat /etc/hosts.allow
portmap: 222.168.100.101/255.255.255.0 : 127.

Try (at least temporarily) removing the entry(s) from /etc/hosts.allow

i modified the /etc/hosts.deny file to deny nothing and now it works!

You never told us you had an /etc/hosts.deny file. Out of curiosity, what was in it? Not that it should have mattered here anyway.... I suspect one of your other changes fixed the problem.
