panic with kernel-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3smp

I updated to the 2.6.12-1.1372_FC3 kernels on a Dell Dimension 8400
(Intel P4/Xeon).  When it boots, the following error messages are
displayed on the console:

   insmod: error inserting '/lib/ata_piix.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module
   ERROR: /bin/insmod exited abnormally

Then it halts with a kernel panic.

Among the dozen machines I maintain, this is the only one with SATA
drives.  The kernel update on all the other machines went fine.

Any ideas?
