O, I was wrong. So /boot/grub/grub.conf is the real file with the
configuration content. Time for consulting the grub documentation.
$ ls -ll /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/grub.conf /etc/grub.conf
-rw------- 1 root root 884 24. Mai 00:38 /boot/grub/grub.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 30. Mai 2004 /boot/grub/menu.lst ->
./grub.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 30. Mai 2004 /etc/grub.conf ->
../boot/grub/grub.conf
