e100 misbehaviour

But, if I do a manual modprobe e1000 (with no other driver loaded) then 
my card doesn't work. Is it wise to do this then?
I can't remember doing anything to my network card, so I suppose the 
Fedora install has configured it. It worked right away after install AFAIK.
