Updating FC3

Easdy question with an easy answer.  FC3 comes with its own built-in
updating system called up2date, which is accessible from the menu --->
System Tools --->  Red Hat Network.  You may also launch it by selecting
the Red Hat Network Alert icon from the same System Tools menu.  If you
have updates for your machine, the icon will glow a dark red with a !
shining through it.

To see what will be updated, you can double-click on the icon, which
will bring up the Alert Notification tool that shows you the current
version of package(s) you have, and the newer version that it will be
upgraded to.  You then click on "Launch up2date.." which will take you
through the easy process of updating your system.

Alternatively, you may run a utility called "yum" from the console.  yum
is the utility that up2date uses (up2date is really just a GUI frontend
for yum).  To run yum, you must be the root user on your system - simply
type in "su" at the console, followed by the password you set up for the
root user when you installed FC3.

Once you become root, type "yum update" to have yum look through all of
the repositories (places that have updates) in your yum.conf file or
other .conf files.  Someone on here can tell you the repos you
definately should have listed in your .conf file; mine lists repos that
from fc3's core and extras, as well as a couple other places that have
rpms.

Which service you use is up to you, it's a matter of personal
preference.
