Bittorrent - how to use on Linux?

So what side effects could I expect to see? On an AMD Duron 1 ghz box
with 512 ram, should I expect to see any type of slowdown?

I once tried Java on a win98 box, P4 with 256 ram, and it became
almost unusable, but that was a few years back. On the same machine I
now have winXP and I think that I had Java in there on a previous
install (I reinstall that os every few months...). I don't remember
any issues with it under XP.
