sendmail problem

For some reason I can not receive any email. As far as I know I did not change
anything major in the config files. The error I get in the maillog file is
SMTP connect to localhost failed
SMTP error: 451 4.3.2 Please try again later
... relay=[127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: 451 4.3.2 Please try again later
stat=Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]


What could be affecting the sending of local mail. I am using fetchmail to
retrieve mail.
