fc3 no longer automounts removable usb devices

Ok, just as before, when I insert a usb device, it
adds a n entry to /etc/fstab like so

/dev/sda1 /media/UDISK_20X vfat

pamconsole,exec,noauto,iocharset=utf8,noatime,sync,managed
0 0

and ls -la /dev/sda says this

brw-rw-rw- 1 root disk 8, 0 Mar 22 02:15 /dev/sda

and gnome-volume-properties says to automatically
mount removable devices still, BUT

if I have GVP running, and insert any removable usb
device, it says

mount /media/UDISK_20X/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
/dev/sda1,
or too many mounted file systems

or

mount /media/usbdisk/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
/dev/sda1,
or too many mounted file systems

just like if I typed manually

mount /media/usbdisk

it says

mount /media/usbdisk/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
/dev/sda1,
or too many mounted file systems

what's the problem? The entry is not in /etc/fstab
until insertion, what happened to automatic mounting?
root can mount the device fine, but no users.

help?
