Safest way to setup Ad-Hoc wireless

What is the safest way to setup an Ad-Hoc wifi connection from FC4 to a
Windows machine? I already have it working. But to my limited understanding,
I just have it on open auth, and a 5 character WEP key.

Please advise, thank you.
