K3B won't burn at 16X;

Hello guys,
I am having a strange problem using K3B on fedora core 3/4.
I have a Philips DVD writer 16X/8Xrw 40x for cd in my machine and
whenever I  burn dvds K3B won't recognize the full capabilities of my
burner.
Even if I choose auto mode for dvd writing speed k3b still writes at 8x
maximum and there is no mention in the speed section of the 16x choice.
Is there anyway I can I can hack k3b configuration in order to get this
feature enabled?
