Ok, tested last night, it works. What i did:

- installing hplip, hplip-devel and libsane-hpaio
- starting hplip using /sbin/service hplip start
- restart cups for printing well

...and scan, scan, scan...

btw. sane-find-scanner still won't find the scanner, whilst scanning from
xsane and the gimp will work well.

Definitively, libsane-hpaio should be a dependendy of sane!
