system-config-display won't accept root password at boot

This error seemed to be a problem with kudzu detecting something and
fowling things up. Kudzu does not prompt for actions any longer, it goes
wilde sometimes instead.
I had this error a long time ago (FC4) and it did the same thing with
asking for root password but never accepting the input.
