scim & locale

Hello,
I am making utmost efforts to make scim to work. One problem I face when
starting OO.o as "GTK_IM_MODULE=xim oowriter" is thefollowing error
message:

(process:5850): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib
(process:5850): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set locale modifiers

I read from scim documentation that setting locale is very important. I
get this error whether I choose the system>administration>language as
English(India) or English(USA). Where do things go wrong? Any help,
please?
