Suggestions for streaming audio?

It is a bit more secure - no access to the files over the network.
You can also have more then one device connected to the same stream.
But the machine doing the streaming decides what songs you get to
hear. I used to have a system with a FM radio card in it that I
would stream one station over the local LAN to a machine on my
workbench in the basement - I could not pick up the station down
there. (It does tie up a bit of processor power encoding an audio
source - not a problem when streaming .mp3 files.)
