Generally that message comes when you are missing some of the non-free codecs.  
The usual advice seems to be to download livna's mplayer package, together 
with all the related codec packages.  IIRC that is done by 'yum install 
mplayer*' when the livna repo is enabled.  IOW, I think all the packages you 
need start with 'mplayer'

Don't know about that one, but if you are using KDE you might like to look in 
the Control Center for Sounds & Multimedia > Sound System and check that 
Auto-suspend if idle after: is set to 1 second.  aRts has a nasty habit of 
holding on to sound systems unless you keep that value small.
